Hello All,

EditStar has been a project I have been working on over the Summer. The basic idea behind this is to have a content management system that is really simple and fun to use. One could be utilised by developers and end users alike. I think I have acheived that. That is why today I am pleased to present a totally free version of this application! All the files you need can be previewed and downloaded below. I have also made a user guide to accompany this release.

DOWNLOAD

As opposed to selling it to people I have added a donate button. So if you apreciate this work or use it in any of your websites or for clients, please consider making a donation. A lot of time and effort has gone into this project and all donations are more than apreciated. I am a student type after all.

Please get back to this thread with feedback and your opinions.

What is this program for? Can't you just write this stuff in your HTML editor?

yes. but this is a backend that can be used in your browser without having to install any additional software, find your code or manually upload your changes.

I'm a beginner in swish&Flash, recently emerged from a decade in the wilderness, but back in the paleolithic era I was a UNIX programmer ... we used to carve our URLs into stone using flint hammers.

I've learned about a lot of valuable things, including .htaccess and loadVariable() thanks to your editstar manual&package ... However, now that I seem to have everything 'working' as well as I can ... I can alter the various "secion8.txt" et cetera files with external editors and see their effects in my webpage/Flash-clips ... but:

When I run editstar on the files, it tells me it writes/previews the section*.txt files, but it does not seem to actually write anything. No new files ever appear in the content directories when I try to alter them using editstar. I can change them using other editing & ftp, and see the effects in my Flash clips.

I know it's hard to ask you to do much with such a vague problem description. As I said before, I've learnt a ton of valuable information just trying to install the thing! I just don't know where to go next with it ...

thanx,
woodymoo

Jayzonline, woodymoo,

Thanks for the kudos.

Woody... Double check that you have chmod'ed the files and directorys correctly as is described in the manual. If this doesn't help just post back.

Andy.

This is brilliant Andy! I have waiting (and waiting and waiting) for something like this and I love it! As soon as I get a client to test it out on I will send along feedback.

Thank you again, and I appreciate you so generously providing this.
