**I am very slow** - a dumb newbie

Hi everyone, How is it possible to make the top portion of the website of http://www.macromedia.com
I would like to know how the following can be accomplished through Swish:
1) the fade out/fade in effect when the mouse is over the button
2) the slide out upon clicking on shortcuts
3) the most...drop down menu --just like that.

I searched for my answers on several webpages without any luck. Please do not just give urls of those types of files because I don't want that or need it. I just want to know how can this be done using swish. I know these are too much to explain but replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Using SWiSH, those things are very simple. I have a few things I must do, but I'll see what I can do about making a .swi like that for you.

That's a nice example PLa$tik.

To dumb newbie:
Just curious - why did you choose a name like that?? If you stick around here for a while, you're just going to have to change that anyway?? :D

Dumb Newbie- I would like to say I believe you can not comment on what the possibilities of swish are untill you try it for yourself with all the possibilities. Please let me know when you have done that:P

I also have to agree with AlienInLondon: You gonna have to change that name:o

Thanks Plastic...I downloaded the file but couldn't open it, there is an error message saying "unexpected file format" - I am using swish 2.0 and I looked at their website for updates but didn't find any - How can I resolve this problem?

Alien London and Fast4flash - Right now, my nick is a direct reflection of my ability but when (if ever), I master swish - this name will be a sarcastic one...So there is no need to change :)

Thank you all for your replies

If you are using the version that is currently available at Swishzone.com (build # 2002.04.17) --- then Pla$tik might have used the most recent "test" version (not officially released on the Swishzone website yet) :

http://board.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=326152

But, First I would make sure you are using build 2002.04.17 (check the Help menu in SWiSH - and select About SWiSh -- it will tell you the build number you have)

Brian

That file was made before I downloaded the new trial build (in the 2002.04.17 build). So, jsut be sure to have the latest; and it should work.

My third day of Swish - Still stink. I noticed "sprite" is the most used function. My problem is that I have yet to understand it's function - I know that it's a scene within scene but I do not know when to use Group sprite or when to use just sprite. Anywayz - I only got the button to fade in. Can anyone tell me how can I make my button fade out after the cursor is removed from the button?
Another thing...How can this be achieved? Upon clicking a link..webpage appears like a blink of an eye (close & open) or slide in or any other "cool" effect.

P.S. - What is the normal length of time to be a "master" of swish or atleast make a decent looking site?

I hope this doesn't confuse you further...

A Sprite Object is a Simple Object that has its own Timeline and is a collection of objects with Effects. They are the equivalent of 'Movie Clips' in Flash.

Since a Sprite's Timeline is played independently from that of the main Movie, you can think of it as a piece of reusable animation inside the main Movie.

A Sprite Object can contain any type of object, including other Sprite Objects.

You can also create an animated Button by using a Sprite Object in the Up, Over and Down button states.

You can create an empty Sprite using Insert Sprite, or convert an object into a Sprite using Convert to Sprite or Group as Sprite. You can also produce Sprites by importing an animated .gif or a .swf movie.

You can change the content of a Sprite when the Movie is playing using the Load Movie action, specifying a special Level of -1.

You can edit the settings for a Sprite Object using the Sprite Panel.

A Sprite can be the target of a Tell Target action. However, Sprites that have Mouse Events or are inside a Button State cannot act as targets, even if they have a name. Also Sprites that are within an unnamed Sprite or a Group can only be referred to from within the Sprite itself (i.e. from one of the objects inside the Sprite).

This was taken directly from the SWiSH help files.

A 'sprite' is basically a "movie" within a "movie" it has its own time line and is not affected from the main "movie"/timeline unless told to do so, usually with the 'tell target' function.

The best thing to do is to experiment with sprites or download some examples and disect them and learn from them.
What is the normal length of time to be a "master" of swish or atleast make a decent looking site?

There are people around here (and other places) that are extremely good at SWiSH, but I don't think it has meen mastered by anyone except the creators. As far as a decent site, "beaty is in the eye of the beholder). Someone will always pick you site apart, no-matter-what!

Godspeed!

Thank you for that definition. I think it gave me little more knowledge. As for beholder's beauty, maybe my mom will like it.

I greatly appreciated the tutorial on the sprited button that has been recently posted up - just the thing I needed. I was trying to do it but it was all wrong.

thanks team

Hi there Dumb Newbie,

I think I'll call you DN from now on too ;)
I'm a newbie too, but that doesn't prevent me from making 'dumb' mistakes. I'm actually really enjoying myself learning this stuff....

Bye for now!
